I hate ants.

Dear ants in my apartment:
Why the hell are you here? Theres no food laying around for you to eat and yet a lot of you still manage to crawl in random sections of our apartment. For example, why do you usually congregate in the bathroom when the only things that are there are toilet paper, towels and shampoo? If the weather sucks and you're trying to come here for shelter, it's not going to work because once I notice that you're crawling around my stuff, I will raid/crush the shit out of you. Your visit in my bedroom, particularly near my bedsheets was not very pleasant and if you want your puny self to live, go somewhere else.

UGH.

(3:43:34 PM) i don't know where the hell they're coming from
(3:44:09 PM) nocturnalazn21 move out
(3:44:16 PM) nocturnalazn21 dragon house? lolol
(3:45:09 PM) nocturnalazn21 lol
(3:45:17 PM) nocturnalazn21 I'll have an ant farm
(3:46:27 PM) nocturnalazn21 I'll put it outside your door so when you open your door you knock it over

......

Anyways, the triple bday party was fun. There were some people at the party that were a bit too...friendly. Afterwards, I ate dumplings and watched a little bit of bleach. Didn't really get that much sleep from that.
At practice, I got a splinter from fiberglass on the HK. In all my years of paddling, that has never happened before. It's still stuck in there and every now and then it stings.=(
Now i'm here at Stacks getting ready to study. YAY!

Ear candy: Lady Gaga 'Monster'
I don't know why but I really like this song. I'm surprised it hasn't become popular yet.

Make me smile =)

1)In Xiaoyangba community Yichang town, Hubei Province, there is a “teacher” with severe physical disabilities. A childhood medical malpractice injured his sciatic nerve, so he forever could not stand up.

For decades, he could only walk in a knee squat with his hands. His physical disability finically burdened his family. Xiang Xin (向新), who is 45 years old but has never been married. He lives in a house made of wooden planks near a factory. Because he had excellent mathematics grades in school and he studied hard on his own, he started an afterschool program – “continuation class for Children of migrant workers” aiming on improving mathematics skills. Currently there are over 100 children of migrant workers already are enrolled in this program.

=) How cool is that?!

On another note, I feel like i'm at a point where it shocks me when I see people on TV who are of the same age or younger than me and are so talented.

Take for instance. Watching the olympics and watching athletes that are younger than 20 years old take home a medal.

Another example is ABDC. Many of the members on Poreotics are 20. DAYUMM. bwhaha. YOU KNOW WHAT THAT MEANS! ;) jk. sort of. heeeheee I wish I could dance as well as them or other people on that show.

exhausted.

People need to start doing their own fucking shit and not letting others take care of it for them. I have my own life too you know.

On another note, it really sucks when you see one of your closest friends that you've known for so long go through something that was extremely painful in the past for her and that old wounds have recently opened up when all you can really do is just sit there and hope for the best for her and her family.
I'm sure she'll get through it though. She's one of the most amazing people I've ever met.

Yay $1 makeup!

Yay! After like what seemed like MONTHS, I finally got make up from Thuan today! A couple weeks ago, NYX had a $1 makeup sale. Seeing that I'm not the greatest expert on makeup and I don't like spending a lot of money on it, I decided to buy some. As much as I believe that true beauty lies within the individual, I figure that there has to be a point in time when a girl needs to start learning how to use makeup. ELF also has a 50% off sale on their make up so I might consider getting something from there as well.

THE MIRROR SWIZZLES (is that a word?)!!!

Goal: To know enough makeup knowledge so that whenever I go into Sephora (which by the way, is an amazing place) I have some idea of whats there and what to get instead of being overwhelmed.

Also. I found out that Gamestop on Telegraph closed down. What a sad day =(. Where am I going to go to get videogames if I ever get a sudden binge for them?! I wanted to get 'Heavy Rain' too....

Bacteria and Physics pr0n

Yeah. never knew those two things could ever come together eh?
Woke up today. Realized that I didn't have a hooded jacket or umbrella at ED's place so I went downstairs to buy a new umbrella. It was pretty expensive for such a small umbrella so hopefully it'll last for a while. Went to Physics and went through a whole series (of circuits! hah hah hah) of dirty bacterial and physics jokes with ED and Walex. I never knew anyone could ever develop physics pick up lines. Oh well.
History was cool. I found out that people from South China during the Tang dynasty usually had tattoos. eh. South China> North China..even though people in North China eat more noodles than rice.

We're officially registered for Alcan! yay.

I should be studying now.

Good.

Supporters of the expansion say that having more doctors will improve care, by getting doctors to urban and rural areas where they are needed, by shifting care to primary and family practice physicians rather than expensive specialists, and by reducing long waits for people to see a doctor and get the care they need.

In your opinion, what do you find is the greatest concern among the healthcare system?

Tough question huh (sounds like a med school interview type of question! hah.)? With all the problems that reside within the health community (and there's just wayy too much that can simply be mentioned), I would personally have to say that my greatest concern with the healthcare system today is the lack of treatment and care among the Asian American community.

First off, I don't want to come off by saying that Asians Americans are the only group of people who deal with the lack of healthcare because obviously, there are many other minority based groups that should be better off but after reading a couple of articles on various Asian blogs ( I should really be studying.) , I can't help but express my frustration on the poor quality of health services in Chinatown for various groups of people, particularly those who are immigrants or have a low income.
Having been born in a suburban area and then eventually raised in the city, it's pretty easy to notice the differences in how you're treated whenever you go into the doctor's office. When I first moved to SF, my parents had a pretty stable income and I had a pretty good physician to take care of me. While we didn't really get our own place to live, (we planned to 'temporarily' stay at my grandparents house..which now didn't really pan out as well seeing that we've lived there for about 10 years now....) things weren't too bad until my dad got sick and my mom had to get a job to support us. I eventually stopped seeing my regular physician and dentist a couple years ago because my parents switched health care services to NEMS, which is a non-profit health organization that serves the medically under-served community (particularly those who are Asian American). NEMS have clinics that are located through out the city but it's prominently based in Chinatown. Given my description of what NEMS is all about, it's a pretty good organization with ideals that really helps patients who have limited English speaking skills. However, there are some things that I believe that should be improved.
1) PATIENT CARE.
I don't know about you, but whenever I go into the doctor's or dentist's office, I would like to be treated with CARE instead of hearing the doctors gossip in Mandarin while doing a check up on me. Granted, I have limited listening skills, but I don't want to hear about what 'so and so' did the other day and how 'whats his face' acted like while you're probing into the gums of my teeth. What's unfortunate about the some of the staff from NEMS is that they occasionally 'forget' the fact that they're improving the quality of a patient's life (or at least I would hope so.) and see the things that they do as something extremely menial. It's also really unfortunate that most of the people I see working at those hospitals seem like they're just technicians instead of young and bright doctors who got out of their residency and really focus on serving their community, at least not that I've seen so far. While i'm sure there's someone out there who really cares about their people, it's kind of frustrating to see a lack of focus in caring for various patients.
2) Facility
With about 6 floors and over hundreds of people coming into the hospital everyday, I find it strange to see that there's only one elevator in the whole building. You have to wait in line to get in and practically get squished while you're inside the elevator. You wouldn't see this at all in a private hospital or clinic. However, I can't really see any options in adding another elevator, seeing that the building is already pretty crowded.
3) H1N1 Vaccine
Until a couple months ago, I don't think I really realize the need for an improved healthcare system until I had to wait in line for the H1N1 vaccine twice. The first time was when I had to take the BART back home to meet up with my dad and my sister so we could get the vaccine. Vaccinations started from 4pm-7pm and even when we got there 2 hours early, there was already a MASSIVE line that reached from the hospital to this nearby park in CT. I didn't get the vaccination that time but it was just really discouraging to see all those people waiting in line and how some volunteers or guards (i don't remember) were yelling at the groups of people who were frustrated that they didn't get a vaccine for the second or third time. My parents and sister ended up waking at 5 in the morning on a weekday to wait for the next administration of the vaccine. I guess having a shortage of the vaccine doesn't really help the situation but it's pretty ridiculous to see so many people wait hours before and after in line just to get a vaccine.
Also, according to this other blog, Alameda's Public Health department has flyers on the H1N1 vaccine in English and Spanish but none in Simplified or Traditional Chinese, which I find to be very strange.

Anyways, I guess you can say that I'm a huge proponent on improving healthcare for the Asian American community, particularly in Chinatown.
I've been interested in TCM for a while not only because of its alternative approaches but I feel like there should be a need to integrate TCM and Westernized medicine for everyone, or particularly for the Asian Americans. When my dad was sick, the UCSF doctors told him that he would only be able to produce limited saliva due to radiation treatment but with herbal medicine, doctors were astonished at his recovery. With so many people who are currently going through chemotherapy or radiation treatment, you can only imagine how much better they could be if they knew about TCM or any other alternative/preventative medicine.

On another note, here is something I find to be very interesting and that those who are interested in pursuing a career in healthcare should be aware of.
While many of us strive to improve healthcare, we must not lose sight of simple things. We must be vigilant of a patient's right to know, which may necessitate the services of an interpreter. There remains a glaring need for better communication in the healthcare system. We must always remember this.

Their blog even has the same skin as I do! ahahah...

Wow how terrible.

I don't think i know anyone who has eyes THAT slanted. I always thought that Asian people usually had almond shaped eyes.

Decisions decisions.

So on Monday I stopped by the BSP office to talk about my grades and plans after graduation, which was nice. Ever since I've came to college, I don't think I've ever really sat down with anyone to talk about how I was doing and what I wanted to do in the near future. With my limited Chinese skills, it's pretty hard to express how you're really feeling with regards to school with your parents, especially when they've never gone to college. My aunt is probably the best person to talk to about these kinds of things but now that she's working in HK, it's hard to communicate with her.

Anyways, I've come to this point where I NEED to do better in school or else I can't get to where I want to go. Despite taking a break from Aphio, my grades still sucked ass last semester with Bio1A&L, Physics and Anatomy combined together. (Ugh. If I had the chance to go back in time, I would have dropped anatomy like nobody's bi'nezz. UGHHHH. WHY COULDNT DIAMOND HAVE TAUGHT THE CLASS!?) My priorities weren't really sorted out right and everything I was doing (asides from Dragonboat) felt really last minute.
Anyways, talking to the BSP advisors has pretty much given me the following ultimatums.
1) Take 104 next semester instead, focus everything on Physics and kick ass on that class.
2) Take 104 and Physics and struggle between balancing the two.
3) Take a break from social life and stop going out so much.

Well. Seeing that people (including myself) are so gung-ho about Alcan, It going to be hard to drop out of DB. Also, I don't know if I can really see myself doing that given how much this team has grown. However, it's come to a point that I don't know if I can really handle going to the gym 7 days a week, coming back around 10-10:30PM and end up doing nothing for the rest of the night for the rest of the semester. (Yes. I know I can work out by myself but that's not the point. )Take Jsu for instance. Granted we call him a bitch for missing out on practices and stuff but asides from DSP, I trust that he's working hard on academics and getting an internship during the summer. I mean, ten years from now, what will really resonate on your college record? How much time you spend working out with your teammates or how much time you've spent studying for that Cell bio class? Don't get me wrong, I love DB and I won't be leaving anytime soon but perhaps it might be better for those individuals to cut some slack on people who need to study or have other priorities. Of course everyone has their own different situation though.

So pretty much it leaves to whether I want to deal with two equally hard classes at once where my grades from this point on will affect my chances of entering med school. The thing that gets me is that I actually like MCB104 in terms of the material but I can't drop physics now because it's too late. mm.
So we'll see. It really depends on how tomorrow's MCB quiz is going to be like.

On another note, what concerns me is that if I really do drop 104 and try to focus everything on physics, I still don't get to where I want to be. =/

YES. THE INTERNETZ IS BACK!

We take internet too much for granted. This past week without internet in the apt apartment reminded me of the time during spring break when I had no internet at all and had to go downstairs in the cafe to upload pictures *gahhhh*. Wasn't TOO bad though I guess.

I'm really excited for my Integrative medicine decal. After giving it some thought, i really like the idea of preventative/holistic medicine in comparison to the standard westernized. Don't get me wrong, western medicine is amazing but sometimes I feel like there are many different non-invasive alternatives to medication.
